The International Energy Agency (IAEA) has warned that an attack near any nuclear facility in Iran could pose serious risks to the region. The warning comes after reports of an alleged attack near the Bushehr nuclear power plant in southwestern Iran were received.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grassi said that Bushehr is an active nuclear plant with a large amount of nuclear material, and in the event of any damage, the effects of radiation could spread to a wide area outside Iran. He appealed to all parties to show “maximum restraint”.
Meanwhile, Israel has claimed that it has targeted air defense systems, missile installations and weapons production centers in various parts of Iran.
According to the Israeli military, ballistic missile and other weapons production centers in Tehran were targeted. Missile launchers and storage facilities were attacked in western Iran.
Iran has not released full details of the attacks, but tensions in the region are clearly rising.
Amid rising tensions in the region, Kuwait has also confirmed an attack by “hostile drones” on its main commercial port, Shuwaikh Port.
The Kuwait Ports Authority said the port was damaged but no casualties were reported.
Kuwait has launched an investigation into the attack, while security alert has been raised in Gulf countries.
Recent events in Iran, Israel and the Gulf countries have exacerbated concerns about nuclear security in the region, the possibility of military conflict and the vulnerability of trade routes.
The IAEA has made it clear that the consequences of any military action near nuclear facilities could be “unimaginable”.
