At least 4 people were killed and three injured in an attack by unidentified gunmen in the Hazarganji area of Quetta, the main city of Balochistan, on Sunday morning.
According to initial reports, the attack took place when vegetable vendors were at their shops.
The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital where more details about their condition are being revealed.
After the incident, intense anger spread in the city and citizens started protesting by staging a sit-in on the Western Bypass.
The protesters blocked traffic and demanded that the government arrest the accused and provide protection to the Hazara community.
The Hazara Shia community has been targeted in several deadly attacks in Quetta before. The militant organization Lashkar-e-Jhangvi has claimed responsibility for several attacks in the past.
According to reports by human rights organizations, the Hazara community has been facing targeted killings and bomb blasts for years, while the affected families have repeatedly demanded that they be provided with effective protection.
After the incident, the police and FC have cordoned off the area and started collecting evidence.
According to authorities, investigations are underway to find the attackers.
On the other hand, the protesters say that the protests will continue until the killers are arrested.
The Islamic State of Pakistan (ISPP) has claimed responsibility for the attack in Quetta, Balochistan, in a media statement, which resulted in the death of members of the Shia Hazara community.
