US President Donald Trump has claimed that an Iranian-flagged cargo ship has been intercepted during the US naval blockade in the Gulf.
Trump wrote on his social media platform ‘Truth Social’ that the ship named ‘Tusca’ did not heed the warning to stop, after which the US Navy took it into custody.
Iran has described the action as a violation of the ceasefire and said that it is ‘armed robbery’ and that it will be responded to soon.
After the ship was seized, the US Central Command released a video of the incident in which a ship is shown intercepting an Iranian cargo ship. In the released footage, it can be seen that a cargo ship is being fired upon after sending messages to it.
A statement issued by Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said that the US military’s firing on and seizing an Iranian ship was a “blatant violation of the ceasefire” and that a response would be given soon.
According to Iranian media, Colonel Ibrahim Zolfaqari, spokesman for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said in his statement that “the US, by demonstrating aggression, not only violated the ceasefire but also committed maritime piracy.”
He further said that “US forces fired on an Iranian merchant ship in the Sea of Oman, disabled its navigation system and attempted to seize it by landing its armed marines on board.”
Iran’s armed forces have described the operation as “armed naval robbery” and said that it will be responded to.
