Gilgit (Kashgal News Bureau)
The Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court has granted bail to Advocate Ehsan Ali, Chairman of the Awami Action Committee Gilgit-Baltistan, and Masood ur Rehman, General Secretary of the Anjuman-e-Tajiran Gilgit-Baltistan.
Ehsan Ali, along with fourteen other Action Committee leaders, was arrested on May 15 under the Anti-Terrorism Act. During custody, detainees were reportedly subjected to physical and psychological abuse before being transferred to Central Jail, Minawar. Due to health complications, Ehsan Ali was later admitted to PHQ Hospital Gilgit and subsequently referred to a government hospital in Islamabad.
Other members of the Action Committee were released after spending two and a half months in prison. On August 19, the Chief Court ordered the release of both Ehsan Ali and Masood ur Rehman on bail.
Upon their return to Gilgit, supporters and leaders of the Awami Action Committee received them at Nade Ali Chowk, Skwar, and escorted them home in the form of a rally.
