According to Britain’s largest intelligence agency GCHQ (Government Communications Headquarters), nearly half a million Russian soldiers have been killed in the Ukraine war that began in 2022.
The figures were presented by GCHQ Director Anne Cast Butler.
She also alleged that the Kremlin is behind several espionage plots on British soil and that Russia has been waging an undeclared ‘hybrid war’ against the UK and other NATO countries in recent years.
Both Russia and Ukraine have periodically released figures on each other’s military losses, but refrain from giving details of their own losses.
However, in February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed since 2022.
