In the general elections held in Bangladesh yesterday, the BNP won 151 out of 300 seats, which is the majority needed to form the next government.
On the other hand, the BNP’s main rival, Jamaat-e-Islami, has again raised questions about the vote counting process.
Jamaat-e-Islami said in a statement today that ‘we are not satisfied with the process of the election results.’
The party also appealed to everyone to be patient and forbear.
The BNP has claimed victory in the country’s historic elections, and the results show that it is on track to win a majority.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Bangladesh has declared the general elections ‘neutral and credible’.
Chief Election Commissioner Naseeruddin said in a conversation with journalists, ‘I feel satisfied. We promised to hold elections in a warm atmosphere and give the nation a completely impartial and credible election, and we believe we have achieved this goal. Everyone is acknowledging it.’
He thanked voters, political leaders and journalists, saying that acceptable elections could be possible with everyone’s cooperation.
On the other hand, supporters of Sheikh Hasina’s former ruling party, the Awami League, had appealed for a boycott of the vote, as the party was barred from contesting the elections.
