The Strait of Hormuz will not open as long as Trump and Netanyahu remain in power: Mojtaba Khamenei

Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr, a political advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader, has stated that his country has no intention of opening the Strait of Hormuz as long as US President Donald Trump remains in power.

In a statement published by Iranian news agencies on Thursday, Zolqadr said, “The Iranian nation has resolved to shatter the might of the aggressive enemy and break the back of arrogant powers.”

He added that the Strait of Hormuz would not be opened until Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are removed from power. He described this as part of the first phase of the Iranian nation’s retaliation.

According to BBC Persian, while Donald Trump has issued repeated—and sometimes contradictory—statements regarding war or negotiations with Iran, deep divisions are also emerging within Iran itself over whether to continue military confrontation with the US or pursue the path of negotiations.

Some of the country’s top political figures, including President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, are demanding that the US implement the memorandum of understanding and recognize it as a prerequisite for ending the war. Conversely, hardliners—including commanders of the Revolutionary Guards—argue that continuing the war and keeping the Strait of Hormuz closed is a more effective strategy for countering the US and Israel.

Meanwhile, rising inflation, economic sanctions, and the naval blockade of Iran’s southern ports have further complicated the daily lives of the country’s citizens. At the same time, the depreciation of the Iranian rial against international currencies has further exacerbated the economic hardships faced by the public.
