In Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, the court expressed displeasure over the absence of the investigating officer and the failure to provide accurate information regarding the case; it directed the relevant authorities not to permit the accused to travel abroad.
During the hearing, the court remarked that an arrest could be ordered if accurate information is not provided. Emphasizing the need for a judicial force, the court observed, “We are still operating under the systems of 1898 and 1860 here.”
DSP Naeem Yousuf informed the court that the investigating officer was in Gilgit-Baltistan and his mobile phone was switched off.
Defense counsel Riyasat Ali objected to this, stating, “Look at the bad faith involved; the courts are being made a mockery of.”
Subsequently, Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain stated that he would issue a detailed order on the matter and that a decision regarding the investigating officer’s absence would also be announced.
The court adjourned further hearing of the case until October 13.
