Long March route changed; will visit Khyber before Peshawar: KP Chief Minister

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has announced a change in the route of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march; the convoy will now head to Khyber first before proceeding to Peshawar.

Addressing long march participants at University Chowk upon their departure from Kohat, Sohail Afridi stated that while the original plan was for the convoy to go directly to Peshawar, the schedule was altered following a request from the people of Khyber.

He said, “The plan to travel from Peshawar to Charsadda tomorrow has been slightly modified because the people of Khyber have demanded the opportunity to host these guests; therefore, we will go to Khyber tomorrow and then proceed to Peshawar.”

Instructing party workers to remain peaceful, the Chief Minister likened the long march to a cricket match.

He remarked, “We are playing a Test match; many overs and many players remain. We will play steadily and patiently.”

According to the schedule released by PTI, the long march was set to depart from Lakki Marwat on October 4, pass through Karak and Kohat on October 5, and arrive in Peshawar on the evening of October 6.

Sohail Afridi stated that the long march’s core demands include medical facilities for PTI founder Imran Khan, the right to meet with his family and lawyers, and his “release in accordance with justice.”

The Chief Minister asserted that his party had pursued all constitutional, legal, and democratic avenues without achieving the desired results, leading them to adopt the path of protest. He emphasized that the objective of the long march is to register a protest in a peaceful manner and that workers should not engage in any provocation.
