Imran Khan’s treatment issue: Kohala bridge closed, MLAs’ protest enters fourth day

The Kohala bridge is closed in protest over the treatment of former Prime Minister of Pakistan and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan, while the MLAs’ protest has entered the fourth day.

Demanding Imran Khan’s treatment, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf workers have closed the bridge connecting Pakistan with Pakistan-administered Kashmir at Kohala since 2 pm on Sunday.

These protesters are within the boundaries of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, but the traffic coming from both sides has been blocked.

There are long queues of vehicles on both sides. Many people are crossing the protesters on foot to reach their destination, but most of them are stuck due to the rush.

There was no call for closure at this point in advance, so many vehicles are currently stuck in the rush here. The protesters here are peaceful and pedestrians are not being stopped.

On the other hand, the protest of MPs belonging to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and like-minded political parties has entered its fourth day.

The PTI is demanding that Imran Khan be treated in confidence with his family and under the supervision of his personal physician.

The protest, which began on Friday, includes more than two dozen MPs who have been restricted to the premises of Parliament House by law enforcement agencies.

These MPs include Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Barrister Gauhar and the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and Senate.

Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Allama Nasir Abbas told the BBC that he is a diabetic and has not eaten anything for 24 hours.

He said that Islamabad police officials are not allowing food and drinks to be brought in from outside and it seems that the staff of the cafeteria in Parliament House has also been sent on leave because there is neither staff nor food in the cafeteria.

PTI Senator Aun Abbas said that the biscuits etc. that were lying with the parliamentarians have also disappeared.

On the other hand, law enforcement agencies have surrounded the Parliament House from both sides and have blocked all the roads leading to the Parliament House.

A small gate has been opened for the National Assembly and Senate Secretariat employees going on duty and they are being allowed to enter after a body search.

According to an Islamabad police official, during the body search of the employees, their mobile phones were also seized and returned when they entered the Parliament House building.

Security personnel are also still deployed outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad and Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, who is inside, is not being allowed to leave.

Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s legal team has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court, requesting an early hearing of the appeals filed against the sentences imposed in the Al-Qadir Trust and Toshakhana cases, citing Imran Khan’s health.
