The death toll from the explosion in a building due to gas leakage in Karachi has reached 7.
According to the police, an explosion occurred in a building in the Soldier Bazaar area of Karachi around 4 am due to gas leakage, as a result of which a part of the building collapsed.
As soon as the accident was reported, the police cordoned off the area and tightened security and rescue agencies started a search operation.
Rescue officials say that the building is three-storeyed and there is a room on each floor, and the rescue operation is facing difficulties due to the narrow streets.
According to rescue officials, rescue operations are ongoing at the accident site and so far 7 bodies have been recovered, including a 10-year-old girl identified as Nazia, while more than 10 injured people have been shifted to the hospital for medical assistance.
DG Rescue 1122 Brigadier Wajid told the media that the gas explosion took place on the first floor of the building. The explosion was caused by a gas cylinder or a gas extraction machine, from which 7 bodies have been recovered so far, including the bodies of a woman and a girl. The DG said that there is a fear that more people may be buried under the rubble, for which the rescue operation is underway. We have a special tool for small buildings. With the help of the tool, we have cut the iron and removed the debris.
