The Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued an advisory on February 23, 2026, in which it has directed Indian citizens in Iran to leave the country immediately.
According to the embassy, this advice is a continuation of the instructions issued during the ongoing protests in the country on January 5 and January 14.
The new advisory states that in view of the latest situation, students, pilgrims, business people and tourists have been asked to leave Iran through available means, including commercial flights.
The advisory urges Indian citizens and overseas Indians to exercise caution, stay away from areas of protests or demonstrations, monitor local media and remain in constant contact with the Indian Embassy.
The advisory further states that all Indian citizens should carry their travel and immigration documents, such as passports and identity cards, with them at all times. In case of any difficulty, they can seek help from the embassy.
The embassy has also provided emergency contact numbers and emails so that citizens can get immediate help. In addition, Indian citizens who have not yet registered with the embassy have been instructed to register through the online link.
If registration is not possible due to internet problems in Iran, their family members in India can complete the process.
