Conflicting claims of drone strikes have emerged in the wake of tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The Afghan Ministry of Defense has claimed that its air force targeted military installations and cantonments in Nowshera, Jamrud and Abbottabad, including the Pakistani capital Islamabad, at around 11 am. According to Afghan officials, the operation was successful.
On the other hand, Pakistan has rejected Afghan claims, saying that there was no damage at any location and all drones were shot down.
Pakistan’s Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar said in a statement on social media that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan terrorists had tried to launch small drones in Abbottabad, Swabi and Nowshera, however, security forces took immediate action and destroyed all the drones without any harm.
He added that incidents of this nature expose the alleged direct link between the Afghan Taliban and terrorism in Pakistan.
According to authorities, the situation is being closely monitored, while security agencies have been put on high alert.
