Keeping Shabir Mayar in Schedule IV for 18 months is inhumane, KSO

The Karakoram Students Organization in a statement has termed the process of keeping Shabir Mayar in Schedule IV for 18 months as illegal and inhumane.

The statement said that Shabir Mayar, a well-known Hurriyat leader of Gilgit-Baltistan and the chief organizer of the Gilgit-Baltistan United Movement, has been under house arrest in his village for the past eighteen months under the guise of the infamous Schedule IV for his struggle for basic human rights and national identity in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The statement said that he and his family have also been detained for medical treatment. Shabir Mayar is a heart patient who has been referred to Pakistan by doctors. He wants to go to Pakistan for treatment, but the state machinery is also preventing him from receiving treatment.

According to the organization, the Karakoram Students Organization strongly condemns the inhumane treatment meted out by the state of Pakistan and demands that black laws like Schedule Four be abolished in Gilgit-Baltistan and that all political leaders be excluded from the Fourth Schedule.
