Pakistani jets bombed several locations in Kandahar province in southern Afghanistan, including Kandahar Airport and a military base. A hospital was also damaged in the attacks.
Meanwhile, clashes are ongoing between Pakistani and Afghan forces at the eastern border crossing of Torkham, where reports of exchange of fire from both sides are being received. People living on both sides of the border are in great fear and uncertainty.
According to BBC Pashto, there was heavy fighting last night near the Khyber Pass in Nangarhar, Paktia, Kandahar and Zabul.
The Afghan Ministry of Defense has claimed that several civilians, including women and children, have been killed since the clashes began.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar rejected these figures, saying that Pakistan was only targeting terrorists and their hideouts and no civilian areas were attacked.
Pakistan had carried out airstrikes in Kabul, Kandahar and Paktia last Friday, which officials described as operations against defensive targets.
This was the first time that Pakistan had targeted major cities like Kabul and Kandahar.
After the escalation of tensions, Russia, Turkey and China have offered to mediate between the two countries, but no formal negotiation process has been initiated so far.
