A case of alleged torture of a sick youth has come to light during a police operation in Bagh district of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, after which his condition is said to be critical.
According to details, the police raided a hotel in Bagh in the afternoon and detained several citizens on charges of violating the sanctity of Ramadan. Among the arrested were Amir, a young man from Srimang, a suburb of Bagh.
According to the locals, Amir is suffering from a heart condition and had stopped at the hotel to get medicine due to his illness. However, the police also detained him during the operation.
In a video circulating on social media, a young man can be seen in severe pain, calling himself Amir, saying that he had gone to the hotel to get medicine but was arrested from there.
The youth says that he repeatedly told the police about his illness and medication, even showed them the medicine, but despite this, he was allegedly tortured.
According to sources, the youth’s condition deteriorated at the police station, after which the police personnel left him at the District Headquarters Hospital Bagh and left.
Hospital sources say that the affected youth has been admitted in critical condition where he is being provided medical assistance.
After the video of the incident went viral on social media, there is a strong reaction from the citizens and a transparent investigation into the police action is being demanded.
