Security arrangements for Quds Day in Pakistan, educational institutions closed in Islamabad & Karachi

Rallies and gatherings have been announced by religious parties in various cities of Pakistan today regarding ‘Quds Day’, while various highways have been closed on this occasion due to security concerns and alternative traffic plans have also been issued.

It should be remembered that every year the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan is celebrated as Quds Day. Demonstrations are held all over the world in favor of the Palestinians.

On the occasion of Quds Day, religious parties have also announced to hold rallies in favor of Palestine in various cities of Pakistan.

In view of the sensitivity of Quds Day, a local holiday has been declared in the federal capital Islamabad and according to a statement issued by the Deputy Commissioner, a holiday has also been given in all educational institutions today.

Quds Day rallies have also been announced in Karachi today, due to which a public holiday has been declared to deal with any unpleasant situation.

On the occasion of Quds Day, only Margalla Road has been kept open to access the Red Zone of Islamabad, however, more personnel have been deployed at the security check posts there than usual, while other routes leading there have been sealed with containers.

Containers have been erected on the routes leading to the Red Zone in Islamabad, while alternative routes have been provided for traffic on the rally routes.

In a statement, the Islamabad Traffic Police has requested that citizens avoid unnecessary travel and use alternative routes.

On the other hand, a spokesperson for the Islamabad Police has said that foolproof security arrangements have been made across the city in connection with the Friday prayer gatherings and Quds Day processions today.

According to the police, ‘More than 3,500 personnel of the Islamabad Police have been deployed on duty for the security of the Friday prayer gatherings and Quds Day processions. Strict security arrangements have been made around all mosques and Imambargahs, including Faisal Mosque.’
