Pakistan and Afghanistan have announced a temporary pause in military operations against each other from the night of March 18-19 to the night of March 23-24 in honor of Eid-ul-Fitr. The decision was made at the request of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey.
Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said that if there is an attack from across the border, operations will resume immediately.
Afghan Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid also announced a pause in ‘Operation Radd-ul-Zalm’ but made it clear that a response will be given if national security is threatened.
The statements of both countries have become harsh after the airstrike on a drug rehabilitation center in Kabul.
Pakistan claims that the targets were weapons depots and drones, while the Taliban say more than 400 people were killed in the attack.
According to the United Nations, at least 143 people were killed and it has demanded an independent investigation.
Taliban Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani attended the funeral prayers.
Pakistan claimed to have hit 22 targets in Afghanistan after a suicide attack on an Imambargah in Islamabad.
Pakistan alleges that the TTP carries out attacks from Afghanistan, a charge the Taliban denies.
Both sides continue to claim drone strikes, the destruction of checkpoints and heavy casualties.
Border clashes continued last year despite a ceasefire.
