In the context of escalating tensions with Iran, the US leadership has made it clear that all military options available to Washington against Tehran are open, including targeting Iran’s nuclear energy facilities.
Speaking on CBS’s Face the Nation program, US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz said that no option regarding Iran is considered “out of the question.”
Mike Waltz also responded to former President Donald Trump’s statement in which he said that the US was close to “completely destroying” Iran’s missile capability and defense industrial structure. According to Waltz, the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has a deep influence on Iran’s critical infrastructure and government institutions, so “all options must be on the table” to weaken Iran’s military capability.
Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social on Friday that the United States is considering reducing its military operations in the ongoing war in the Middle East, but at the same time made it clear that Iran will never be allowed to come close to a nuclear capability. According to him, the United States also wants to neutralize Iran’s navy, air force and anti-aircraft systems so that its allies in the region can be defended “at the highest level.”
US Secretary of Defense Pat Hegseth also confirmed this position, saying that Washington’s goals have not changed since the first action against Iran on February 28. According to him, the main goal of the United States is to destroy Iran’s missile launchers, defense industry and navy, and to ensure that Tehran never acquires the ability to produce nuclear weapons.
These statements by the US leadership indicate that Washington’s strategy against Iran is not only tough, but also that the possibility of further military actions in the near future is not being ruled out.
