The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed that the US warship USS Tripoli has arrived in the Middle East with 3,500 sailors and Marines.
According to the statement, a transport and strike fighter aircraft have also been deployed with this naval group, which has further strengthened the US military presence in the region.
This development has come at a time when the Washington Post has reported that the Pentagon is preparing for several weeks of ground operations in Iran.
According to US officials, these operations will not be a full-scale invasion, but will be limited raids by special operations forces and conventional infantry. However, it is not clear whether President Trump will approve the plan.
The report further states that there are more than 4,000 Marines on US ships heading to the Gulf, while paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division have also been placed on high alert.
This increase in US military movements in the region is being seen in the context of rising tensions between Iran and the United States, which could potentially have an impact on the overall security situation in the Middle East.
