India: Five militants including wanted Pakistani ‘LeT commander’ arrested in Kashmir

The Counter Intelligence Department of Kashmir Police says it has busted an inter-state ‘terror module’ and arrested five people in this connection.

A police statement said that based on intelligence inputs, Abdullah alias Abu Hurairah, a Pakistani national, was arrested along with his Pakistani accomplice Usman alias Khabib during a secret operation after 16 years of hiding.

Police said that three Kashmiris who arranged food and transport for the two men have also been detained. The arrested Kashmiris have been identified as Muhammad Naqeeb Butt, Adil Rasheed Butt and Ghulam Muhammad Mir alias Mama.

The statement said that Abdullah alias Abu Hurairah is a highly wanted commander of the banned militant organization Lashkar-e-Taiba who was in hiding for a long time.

Police officials say that over the past decade and a half, Abdullah has established hideouts in Punjab, Haryana and other states besides Kashmir.

During the operation on Tuesday, raids were conducted simultaneously at 19 locations in four Indian states.

According to the police, four AK-47 rifles and a large quantity of ammunition were also recovered during this time.

According to the police, the operation was launched after credible information was received about the group after the arrest of a citizen of Srinagar.

A police officer said on condition of anonymity that “a foreign terrorist has also travelled outside India by making fake documents with the help of the Lashkar-e-Taiba network in Indian cities.”

Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah called the operation a “positive step.” However, he also expressed concern that “terrorists are still infiltrating and entering Kashmir.”

Speaking to reporters in Jammu on Tuesday evening, he said, “It is good that they were caught, but the question is, where did these people come from and why did they come?”
