At least 15 people have been killed in various landslide incidents in the southern Philippines due to Typhoon Bavi, one of the most powerful typhoons in the past several decades, while several countries in East Asia are also at risk of being hit by this powerful storm.
The storm, which has formed over an area of ​​about 1,000 kilometers, is moving towards Taiwan through the Pacific Ocean.
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rains are likely to occur in the northern and eastern regions of Taiwan and remote islands of Japan before the storm, after which it is expected to hit the coastal areas of southeastern China on Saturday, today.
Dozens of flights have been canceled across the region in view of the storm, while educational institutions have been closed in several areas. Due to a possible emergency, citizens have started stockpiling essential food and other supplies, as a result of which many supermarkets have been emptied.
Several families were buried under debris after a landslide hit the Philippine island of Mindanao overnight, while rescue teams are still searching for missing people.
Authorities say moderate to heavy rains are likely to continue in various parts of the country on Saturday and Sunday, raising the risk of further flooding and landslides.
