US President Donald Trump has announced that he will take control of the Strait of Hormuz and reimpose a naval blockade.
US President Donald Trump has said that the US will ‘possibly run the Strait of Hormuz’ and claimed that Iran has violated a deal it made with the US.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said that ‘we are taking control of the Strait of Hormuz. They have nothing, they have nothing left.’
He referred to the overnight attacks by US Central Command on military targets in Iran and said that ‘the United States inflicted serious damage on Iran last night.’
Trump added that ‘we have them under control. They are retreating. Most of their equipment is gone. Their air defense system is also gone.
Earlier on Monday, the Iranian embassy in the UK said that Iran had established a temporary safe sea corridor in the Strait of Hormuz that was “free from technical and military obstacles.” However, according to the embassy, the waterway has turned into an “extremely dangerous area” due to US military operations.
US President Donald Trump has also announced a naval blockade of Iranian ports once again.
In his post on Truth Social, the US president wrote: “The Strait of Hormuz is open and will remain open with or without Iran.”
“We are reinstating the blockade on Iran.”
He said the aim of the blockade was to prevent Iranian ships and their customers from entering and leaving, but “all other countries will be able to use the Strait of Hormuz fairly and freely.”
The US president claimed that “from today on, the United States will be known as the ‘Guardian of the Strait of Hormuz.’”
However, Trump also said that the US would be paid a “20 percent” on all cargo to cover all costs of providing “security and safety in a very volatile area.”
“This process and the creation of its system will begin immediately.”
