According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the natural disaster management agency, 22 people have been killed and 23 injured in various accidents that occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since July 19 due to heavy rains and flash floods.
According to the data released by the PDMA, the dead include nine men, three women and 10 children, while the injured include 11 men, five women and seven children.
According to the agency, a total of 37 houses were damaged due to heavy rains and flash floods, of which 29 were partially destroyed and eight were completely destroyed.
The PDMA said that these incidents occurred in various districts including Peshawar, Nowshera, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, Shangla, Swabi, Lower Chitral, Lower and Upper Dir, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Tank, Torghar, Kurram and North and South Waziristan.
According to the PDMA, the water level and flow in all rivers and streams of the province are normal. The agency has further said that the heavy rains are likely to continue intermittently till today, in view of which a letter has already been issued to all district administrations to remain alert.
The PDMA has appealed to the citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, not to visit sensitive tourist spots and follow the instructions issued by the relevant agencies.
