Fifteen people including 12 army personnel were killed in an attack by militants on a joint police and army check post ‘Manchi Khel’ in Tank district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The dead include two policemen and a forest department official.
According to a press release issued by the Pakistani military’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attackers carried out the attack on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, during which the attackers rammed a vehicle loaded with explosives into the security wall of the check post, and the intensity of the explosion “severely affected the infrastructure of the check post.”
The ISPR claims that the attackers initially tried to breach the security of the check post on Thursday night, but the attack was foiled by the security forces and the attackers who escaped were pursued and targeted, resulting in the death of 12 attackers.
According to the Pakistani military, “the attackers, in their failure and panic, rammed a vehicle loaded with explosives into the security wall of the check post,” resulting in the death of 15 people at the check post, including 12 military personnel.
As a result of the attack, the Manjhi Khel check post has been completely destroyed, while the injured personnel were shifted to nearby hospitals immediately after the attack.
On the other hand, in view of security concerns, the district administration has imposed Section 144 across the district, while citizens have been appealed to stay at home and avoid unnecessary movement.
According to the ISPR, a clearance operation is underway in the area.
The Manjhi Khel check post is located on the Tank-Dera Ismail Khan road, about 15 kilometers from Tank city.
The southern district of Tank in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been among the areas affected by militant attacks in recent times.
