Jamaat leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman has strongly condemned the recent tension, firing on protesters and violence in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, calling it open terrorism.
In a statement, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that we strongly condemn the firing and worst violence on the Kashmiri people. Firing bullets on our own defenseless people by forces intoxicated with power is tantamount to open terrorism.
He expressed regret and said that today the Kashmir cause is being practically buried, although peaceful protest against government policies is the fundamental and constitutional right of the people. Are the people not even allowed to raise their voices for their rights in this country now?
Criticizing the state’s attitude, the Jamiat leader clarified that we tried our best to prevent the matter from reaching this point, but the state institutions did not take the matter seriously. Today, the Kashmiri people have completely rejected the rigged elections. How long will those demanding their rights continue to be silenced by calling them foreign agents?
Maulana Fazlur Rehman demanded that the state immediately stop this cycle of oppression and repression and give the people their right to legitimate protest.
Expressing solidarity with the Kashmiri people, he said that we stand with our Kashmiri brothers against this atrocity and barbarity.
At the end of the statement, the JUI chief prayed for the elevation of the ranks of those killed in the firing incidents and expressed heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families.
