On the call of the Baloch Solidarity Committee (BYC), a complete shutter-down and wheel-jam strike was observed in various areas of Balochistan including Mastung, Turbat and Nushki today against the Pakistani army’s jet bombing of the civilian population in the Gidar area of Surab district of Balochistan, killing and destroying innocent civilians, women, children and the elderly, and expressing solidarity with the victims.
On the call of the Baloch Solidarity Committee (BYC), Mastung Bazaar, Adda, Sabzi Mandi and Shaheed Safar Khan Chowk remained completely closed, while vehicle traffic came to a complete standstill as part of the wheel-jam strike.
Traders, transporters and local residents observed a strike against the massacre of civilians in Pakistani air strikes on Sorab and in solidarity with the victims and their bereaved families.
The people of Mastung stand with Sorab and have refused to remain silent on the violence against civilians.
Similarly, on the call of the Baloch Solidarity Committee (BYC), the people of Turbat observed a shutter-down and wheel-jam strike today in solidarity with the people of Sorab and against the aerial bombing of civilians.
The bombing in Sorab claimed the lives of civilians, including children, women and the elderly. In response, the people of Turbat closed their shops and roads to raise their voices against the massacre of innocent civilians.
Instead of respecting this peaceful expression of solidarity, the Turbat police, Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner pressured the shopkeepers to reopen their businesses. Shops were forced open and locks were broken to prevent the people from striking.
Despite this, intimidation and pressure could not silence Turbat. The people stood firm with the victims of Sorab and proved that no pressure can silence their voices or their grief.
Turbat stands with Sorab. Where injustice is being done, silence cannot be enforced.
Reports from Noshki indicate that markets and business centers across Noshki remained closed today in solidarity with the victims of the Sorab airstrikes and their bereaved families.
The bombing of residential areas, which resulted in the deaths and injuries of women, children, the elderly and other civilians, is a matter of grave human rights concern. Civilians should never be targeted, and the killing of people inside their homes should not be dismissed as a normal consequence of military operations.
The loss of civilian lives, the destruction of homes and the suffering of families in Sorab demands urgent attention from human rights organizations and the international community. Every civilian life lost is a human life, and every devastated family deserves justice and accountability.
This shutter-down is not an isolated act of mourning, but rather part of a movement spreading across Balochistan that demands that the massacre of civilians be responded to with accountability, not impunity.
