Former female police surgeon Dr. Ayesha Faiz has been arrested from Quetta, the capital of Balochistan.
Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove confirmed her arrest.
According to a senior government official, when someone speaks against the state or gives a statement in support of those who are harming the state, the law will take its course against them.
He said that one FIR has been registered against Dr. Ayesha Faiz by the CTD, while the second FIR has been registered against her by a citizen.
Political leaders from the opposition have condemned the arrest of Dr. Ayesha Faiz.
Dr. Ayesha Faiz belongs to Mastung district. She is the daughter of Faiz Muhammad Dehwar, a well-known nationalist leader of Balochistan.
Her father fought for the rights of the people of Balochistan since the establishment of Pakistan until the last days of his life.
Dr. Ayesha Faiz received her education from Mastung and Quetta.
After obtaining her MBBS degree, she took up a government job.
She worked as a police surgeon at Sandeman Provincial Hospital, Balochistan’s largest hospital in Quetta, for a long time and retired from her job a few months ago.
Opposition leaders and lawyers in Balochistan have condemned the arrest of Dr. Ayesha Faiz.
Former Senator Nawabzada Lashkari Raisani said in his statement on social media that the government has crossed legal and moral boundaries by arresting Dr. Ayesha Faiz.
Lawyer and central president of Jamiat Vakla Forum Senator Kamran Murtaza Advocate says that responding to differences of opinion and criticism on political or administrative matters with arrests, use of force and implementation of strict laws is against democratic values, the spirit of the constitution and the law.
The Balochistan National Party has also condemned the arrest of Dr. Ayesha Faiz, saying that her arrest after her press conference shows that freedom of expression has now been completely banned.
It should be noted that Dr. Ayesha Faiz had expressed her views on the overall political situation of Balochistan, its historical background and recent events in a press conference a few days ago.
She had spoken about the role of women in the Baloch independence movement. Moreover, she also condemned the statement made by the Chief Minister of Balochistan regarding bulldozing the gardens of Mastung in case of future violent incidents.
Police sources say that a case has been registered against Dr. Ayesha Faiz under various sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act, however, the sections included in the case, reasons for the arrest and other further details of the legal proceedings have not yet been revealed.
