A wave of panic has spread in Mastung district of Balochistan where a total of 9 bodies have been recovered from two different places. In the first phase, 3 bodies were found from a drain near the national highway, after which 6 more bodies were recovered on the national highway near Dattu Mor. All these people were allegedly killed and the bodies were thrown in an open place.
According to sources, in the first operation, 3 bodies were recovered from a drain adjacent to the national highway near the Deputy Commissioner House. Immediately after this incident, 6 more bodies were found on the roadside near Dattu Mor (initially 5 bodies were reported, which later increased to 6). Thus, the total number of bodies recovered in Mastung has reached 9.
The bodies recovered near Dattu Mor were lying just one kilometer away from the Shaheed Nawab Ghaus Bakhsh Raisani Memorial Hospital. However, the hospital administration and CEO flatly refused to send rescue teams and ambulances, citing security concerns.
The bodies remained lying in the open air for hours and packs of stray dogs were seen near them, causing severe desecration of the bodies. Despite the presence of security forces and the public, this irresponsible behavior of the hospital administration has caused severe unrest and outrage in the area. Citizens have demanded immediate administrative and legal action against the CEO Hospital and completion of the identification process of the bodies.
This gruesome recovery of 9 bodies from Mastung has come at a time when the Pakistani army’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has claimed to have killed dozens (about 48) “armed individuals” during operations in different areas of Balochistan in the last three to four days.
This claim by the ISPR has come soon after the all-out attacks by Baloch freedom fighters in the month of August, heavy casualties on security forces and destruction of government property.
Human rights groups and political analysts are expressing grave concerns that the forces are repeating the past practice of extrajudicially killing “enforced disappearances” held in secret detention centers and presenting them as armed men killed in “fake encounters” to cover up the loss of life and their own failure in August.
It is feared that the nine bodies recovered from Mastung may also be those of previously disappeared Baloch youth, as armed freedom-seeking organizations immediately release the details of their members on their official media outlets when they are killed.
