According to the Iranian state news agency IRNA, Yemen’s Houthi movement (Ansar Allah) has claimed that its fighters have secured full control of the Al-Omari garrison—a key military outpost overlooking the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
The Houthis also stated that their naval forces have established full control over Zuqar Island in the Red Sea, having cleared the island of opposing forces.
The Bab al-Mandab Strait is considered one of the world’s most vital maritime passages, connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.
Experts note that any military advance by either side in this region could have significant implications for global trade and maritime shipping.
There has been no immediate comment from the Yemeni government or Saudi-backed forces regarding the Houthi claim; however, reports of intense fighting and Houthi advances in the coastal areas of western Yemen have been emerging in recent days.
