Intense protests by the local population—accompanied by the bodies of the deceased—are continuing for a second consecutive day following a Pakistani Army operation in the Wadh Tehsil of Balochistan’s Khuzdar district, during which a wedding ceremony was targeted. The blockade of the Quetta-Karachi National Highway (N-25) has completely halted all forms of transport and trade between the two cities.
According to sources, this bloody incident occurred yesterday in a local village near the Sonaro Pat stream in Wadh, where a wedding ceremony was underway. Late at night, Pakistani Army personnel entered the village and opened indiscriminate, unprovoked fire. As a result of this horrific action, four people—including an innocent child—were killed on the spot, while women and other children present at the ceremony sustained severe gunshot wounds.
Widespread anger and outrage erupted in the area over this military incursion. The bereaved families and local citizens placed the bodies of the victims on the Quetta-Karachi National Highway and staged a sit-in protest, which has now been ongoing for 48 hours (over 24 hours).
The continued closure of the highway has resulted in long queues of vehicles and cargo trucks on both sides of the road, causing severe hardship for travelers and transporters. The protesters demand the immediate arrest of the military personnel who attacked unarmed civilians. They call for a transparent and impartial investigation into the incident to ensure justice for the affected families and demand an immediate halt to such violent operations against civilian populations. The Pakistan Army has issued an official statement regarding the incident, claiming that armed individuals were targeted and killed during the operation.
However, the victims and their families have vehemently rejected this stance, questioning the basis on which an innocent child and hardworking civilians—killed during an ongoing wedding ceremony—are being labeled as armed individuals.
