Pakistan Alleges Over 6,000 TTP Militants Are in Afghanistan

Pakistan’s Federal Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, has alleged that more than 20,000 militants are present in Afghanistan, with over 6,000 fighters from the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) taking refuge on Afghan soil.

Addressing a conference in Islamabad on the evolving counter-terrorism landscape, he stated that Pakistan has consistently demanded—across various international and diplomatic forums—that the Afghan government not allow its territory to be used by militants.

The Information Minister noted that these militants are residing in safe havens on Afghan soil and are undergoing various forms of training there.

Attaullah Tarar affirmed that Pakistan seeks the eradication of extremism and militancy in Afghanistan and will continue to play a constructive role in ensuring regional peace and stability.

Speaking at the conference, the Information Minister acknowledged that Pakistan is currently facing a serious challenge regarding militancy; however, by making unparalleled sacrifices in the war against militancy, the country has played a pivotal role in ensuring not only its own security but also global security.

Tarar asserted that Pakistan has made the greatest sacrifices in the war against militancy and has incurred economic losses exceeding $100 billion.

The Information Minister added that while Pakistan faces the challenge of extremism, state institutions and the public remain united and determined to confront this threat.

He also highlighted that Pakistan has acted as a mediator between the United States and Iran and has continued to pursue positive diplomatic efforts for regional peace and stability. The Information Minister emphasized that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan is in the interest of not only Pakistan but the entire region, and that Pakistan will continue to play its constructive role in establishing lasting peace in the region.
