Balochistan: Video of attack on Pakistan Coast Guard released; BLA claims responsibility

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a pro-independence armed organization operating in Pakistani-administered Balochistan, has claimed responsibility for an attack on two large Pakistan Coast Guard patrol boats in the Jiwani coastal area of Gwadar and released a two-minute video of the incident.

The BLA claims that 13 Coast Guard personnel were killed on the spot during this operation.

In the two-minute video released by the BLA’s official media channel, “Hakkal,” armed individuals can be seen aboard a boat equipped with modern weaponry.

According to spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch, the attackers were fighters from the BLA’s specialized naval unit, the “Hammal Maritime Defense Force” (HMDF), who targeted the Pakistan Coast Guard patrol boats in Jiwani in a simultaneous and coordinated manner.

The spokesperson stated that the BLA had announced the establishment of this formal naval wing on April 13, 2026, with the aim of protecting the region’s coast and resources and expanding its military operational scope.

The unit is named after Hammal Jeeyand Baloch, a prominent 16th-century Baloch naval resistance figure who pioneered naval resistance against the Portuguese.

The operation in Jiwani marks the unit’s second major action. Previously, on April 12, 2026, a Pakistani naval patrol boat was targeted near the ‘Mil Tiyab’ area of Jiwani in the unit’s first naval operation, resulting in the deaths of three personnel. Spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch states that the force’s objective is to defend the coastline and thwart enemy movements at sea. The BLA says that further details regarding the incident will be released soon.
