On October 21, students from the University of Poonch—located in Pakistan-administered Kashmir—held a significant consultative meeting. During the session, they expressed deep concern over the university’s prolonged, undeclared closure and the continued suspension of academic activities.
In a statement and video message released following the meeting, the students presented the following five key demands:
The University of Poonch must be reopened immediately, and academic activities must be restored.
A clear and unequivocal stance must be adopted regarding the students who were killed during crackdowns and operations by security forces.
Internet services in the region must be restored, and non-state actors as well as security forces must be withdrawn from educational zones to ensure a conducive learning environment.
Degree programs across all departments must be completed and awarded within their scheduled timeframes.
Pending examinations for older sessions—including those in the Engineering and other departments—must be conducted as soon as possible.
The students stated that the university has remained closed—without any official announcement—for nearly five months, a situation that is destroying the future of thousands of students.
The meeting included a warning: if these demands are not addressed seriously within the next few days, the students will launch a robust, large-scale movement, mobilizing students from universities across the entire state.
