Israel has claimed to launch an attack against Iran that it is calling a “preemptive” or “precautionary first strike”.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced in a statement this morning the imposition of a “special and permanent state of emergency” throughout Israel.
According to Iran’s official Fars News Agency, three explosions were heard in the center of Tehran, which hit Daneshgah Street and the Republic area.
Images received by the BBC showed clouds of smoke rising from Jamhouri Square and Hassan Abad Square.
According to Iranian media, the sounds of the explosions were not limited to Tehran, but explosions have also been confirmed in several cities including Qom, Tabriz, Kermanshah, Lorestan and Karaj.
Iran has announced the closure of its airspace until further notice, while Israel had already closed its airspace.
US President Donald Trump has confirmed in an eight-minute video on his social media platform “Truth Social” that the United States is also involved in the attack on Iran.
According to him, US forces have launched “major combat operations” in Iran and large-scale operations are underway.
Iran’s Ministry of Health has announced that an emergency has been declared in hospitals across the country to deal with any emergency situation. Final figures on injuries and casualties will be released later.
It should be remembered that US President Trump had already demanded that Iran stop uranium enrichment and said that he was not satisfied with Iran’s position. After these statements, fears of a US attack on Iran increased and many countries instructed their citizens to leave Iran. However, in practice, Israel was the first to launch missile attacks on Iran, after which the United States also confirmed its involvement.
