Security concerns: Mobile and internet services suspended in Balochistan, educational institutions also closed

Mobile networks and internet services have been completely suspended in various cities of Balochistan due to security concerns.

Citizens are facing severe difficulties due to the shutdown of communication systems in Balochistan’s capital Quetta, Nushki, Kharan, Dalbandin, Mastung, Kalat, Sibi and other areas.

According to the Balochistan Ministry of Interior, this step has been taken in view of the security situation, however, political and social circles have criticized the government for the internet shutdown, terming it as an increase in public problems.

According to sources, train services were also suspended in Balochistan along with internet services on March 23, while now the shutdown of educational activities has been further extended.

The Department of Colleges, Higher and Technical Education of the Government of Balochistan has issued an official notification announcing that all government and private schools, colleges, universities, polytechnic institutions, BRCs and cadet colleges across the province will remain closed till March 31, 2026. This decision is in continuation of the previous notification issued on March 9.

According to the department, the extension of the suspension of educational activities was inevitable considering the current situation, the safety of students and teachers and administrative matters.

The notification clarified that no teaching or co-curricular activities will be allowed during this period, while instructions have been issued to the relevant institutions to strictly implement the decision.

Copies of the notification signed by Secretary Colleges Saleh Muhammad Baloch have been sent to all relevant authorities to ensure immediate and effective implementation of the decision.
