World Bank Director General Pascal Donohue expressed his \u2018deep concerns\u2019 about the impact of the Middle East war on the global economy in an interview with the French news agency AFP on Wednesday, especially at a time when many countries are already struggling due to a long series of global crises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Donohue said, \u201cWe are deeply concerned that this war will exacerbate already existing problems such as inflation, job losses and food shortages at the global level.\u201d However, we are working and preparing to take immediate and appropriate steps to address these challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that \u201cwe are consulting with a number of governments and countries to understand their needs and I expect we will have more information in the coming weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The World Bank, particularly through its spring meetings in Washington from April 12 to 17, will need to assess what challenges we may face in the coming period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
