Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has said that progress has been made in peace talks between Iran and the US, but the chances of reaching a final agreement are still far away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Qalibaf, who participated in the recent talks in Islamabad, told Iranian television that the talks were the highest-level meeting between the two countries since the 1979 revolution, but there are still many gaps and fundamental issues. According to him, Iran has made it clear that it has no trust in the US and that the US must change its policies to gain the trust of the Iranian people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Qalibaf said that if Iran has accepted the ceasefire, it is because the US has accepted Iranian demands, because Iran has won on land. According to him, the US has failed to achieve its interests and Iran maintains strategic control over the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, Qalibaf called the US blockade a \u201cwrong and unwise decision\u201d and said that if the blockade is not lifted, passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be restricted. In his video message to the Iranian people, he said that the Strait of Hormuz is under Iranian control and that the US attempt to clear mines was considered a violation of the ceasefire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
