Dr. Mahrang Baloch, a well-known social activist from Balochistan and the central organizer of the Baloch Unity Committee (BYC), has challenged the decision to reject bail after arrest in the case registered against him in the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The application was filed on Monday by his lawyer Advocate Jibran Nasir, in which it has been taken the stand that the decision to reject bail by the Balochistan High Court is not in accordance with the legal requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The case against Dr. Mahrang Baloch was registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997. This FIR was registered on January 6, 2025, on the complaint of Station House Officer Asghar Ali in the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Quetta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Mahrang Baloch\u2019s name was included in the Fourth Schedule through an official notification on October 23, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They are accused of being absent from required appearances and despite this, they continued to participate in public processions and sit-ins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Balochistan High Court had rejected their post-arrest bail application on February 23, 2026, after which they have now approached the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The petition has urged the Supreme Court to set aside the High Court\u2019s decision and release the petitioner on bail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to legal experts, this case can become an important precedent not only in the use of anti-terrorism laws but also in cases against political and social activists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This case will determine to what extent participation in protest activities can be brought under the ambit of security laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It may be recalled that Dr. Mahrang Baloch and his other associates Sibghatullah Shahji, Bebo Baloch, Gulzadi Baloch and Beberg Baloch have been in solitary confinement in Quetta\u2019s Hada Jail for more than a year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
