The political temperature has started rising once again in Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, where arrest warrants have been issued against key leaders associated with the people’s rights movement after cases were filed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to sources, the action against Shaukat Nawaz Mir, Raja Sohaib and other leaders has further fueled the ongoing political tension in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This development has come at a time when preparations for the proposed statewide wheel jam and shutter down strike on June 9 are in full swing, while general elections are also near.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to observers, the government’s measures are being seen as a political pressure strategy rather than a mere legal action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It should be remembered that at least 10 civilians were killed and two policemen were also killed in violent incidents during the people’s rights movement a few months ago. However, no legal action was taken against top government figures despite questions being raised about the use of state power after this incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No FIRs were registered against the then Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq and Interior Minister Waqar Noor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the other hand, the current Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, who was considered a supporter of talks with the Awami Action Committee in the past, now seems to be taking strict administrative measures through his government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The question is being raised in political circles whether the government will be able to stop the public movement through arrests and cases or will it lead to further reactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Analysts say that if a strict strategy is adopted to stop the June 9 strike, tensions may increase further. They have urged the government to ensure the implementation of public demands, agreements and the Charter of Demands so that the situation can be resolved peacefully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
