May 1st was celebrated as Labor Day in Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, like the rest of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On this occasion, a rally was organized in front of the Central Press Club in Muzaffarabad by the PWD Workers Union, in which a large number of workers participated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The participants of the rally raised red flags and kept shouting slogans in favor of their rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In their addresses, the speakers highlighted the problems faced by the working class and said that workers are still deprived of basic rights and there is a lack of practical measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the other hand, the working classes in the region are facing severe economic pressure and exploitation. The government had issued a notification last year to set the minimum monthly wage at Rs 37,000, but its full implementation has not been possible yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to sources, sanitary workers, sweepers and other low-level employees working in the health department and other institutions are forced to work on low salaries contrary to this government order, which shows a clear contradiction between government claims and ground realities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing the rally, labor leaders demanded that the minimum wage notification be implemented immediately and completely, and action be taken against the violators. They said that the dream of development is incomplete without workers, therefore, protection of their rights is indispensable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It should be remembered that Labor Day is celebrated all over the world to commemorate the struggle, sacrifices and rights of workers, however, at the local level, the importance of this day increases further when workers are seen struggling for their basic rights in practice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
