Police in Pakistan-administered Kashmir have registered a case against several people, including a core member of the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC), for allegedly publishing hateful and defamatory content against the region\u2019s Prime Minister on social media. However, the police have not yet arrested any of the named individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The FIR has been registered at a time when the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee has called for a state-wide wheel jam, shutter-down strike and long march on June 9 in favor of the abolition of 12 reserved seats for refugees and other demands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the police report, immediately after the rickshaw accident that took place in Haveli district on May 31, in which seven people lost their lives, JKJAAC core member Murtaza Sharif Mir and six others allegedly published defamatory and hateful content against the Prime Minister and other important figures on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The police maintain that the said content created a fear of incitement and violence among the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The other persons named in the FIR are among the six activists who led a procession in Khurshidabad, Haveli district on Eid on May 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the police, hate speeches and foul language were used during the procession. However, the police report also clarified that JKJAAC core member Murtaza Sharif Mir was not a participant in the procession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the police, all the persons named in the case belong to Haveli district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the other hand, there is no official response from the Jammu Kashmir Joint Public Action Committee (JPAC) on the registration of the FIR. However, the organization has already announced a protest strike and long march across Azad Kashmir on June 9 in support of its other demands, including the abolition of reserved seats for refugees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to political observers, the registration of the case a few days before the protest call has made the political situation in the region more sensitive and there is a possibility of increasing tension between the government and the JPAC on this issue in the coming days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
