At least 56 people have been executed in Iran since March 19 on charges related to national security, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to official information, 27 of those executed were in connection with the January protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Volker Turk, the rate of death sentences and executions in Iran has increased significantly since the start of the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He urged the Iranian authorities to immediately impose a moratorium on all capital punishment and gradually move towards its complete abolition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
