Pakistan\u2019s central government debt has increased by Rs 57.5 trillion during the financial year 2025-26 and reached Rs 836.4 trillion at the end of June 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to data released by the Central Bank of Pakistan, the total debt of the central government at the end of the last financial year was Rs 778.9 trillion, which increased by 7.4% in a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On a monthly basis, a 3.86% increase in government debt was also recorded in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to data from the State Bank of Pakistan, the main reason for the increase in government debt in the financial year under review was the increase in domestic debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During this period, domestic debt increased by 9.1%, while external debt increased by 3.3%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the end of June 2026, the government’s domestic debt was Rs 59,440 billion, compared to Rs 54,470 billion a year earlier. In just one month, domestic debt increased by 3.24%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the other hand, the government’s external debt also recorded an increase during the last fiscal year. During July 2025 to June 2026, external debt reached Rs 242 trillion, while at the end of June 2025, it was Rs 234.20 trillion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
