Leaded by Imran Hussain, Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Kashmir (APPG) in the British Parliament and MP for Bradford East, more than 70 MPs have sent an urgent letter to the UN Secretary-General, calling for immediate international intervention in the dire situation in Pakistan-administered Azad Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The letter expresses deep concern over the recent tensions in the region, loss of life, disruption of communication links, unlawful arrests and disruptions to the supply of basic necessities (food and medicine).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The MPs demanded that all forms of violence and loss of life in the region be immediately addressed. Internet and communication services be restored immediately for all citizens. Uninterrupted supply of food, medicine and medical assistance be ensured. Citizens should be given access to due process and lawyers by ending arbitrary detention. There must be full and impartial accountability for the loss of life and the use of force. Political and peaceful negotiations must begin immediately, focusing on the rights of the Kashmiri people in accordance with United Nations resolutions and international law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The letter emphasizes that the United Nations has a historical and moral responsibility under international law to mobilize its diplomatic resources to de-escalate tensions and ensure the protection of the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
