The declaration outlines the member nations’ shared stance on various critical global issues, including terrorism, Palestine, Gaza, global trade, artificial intelligence, climate change, reforms in global financial institutions, and the role of developing nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is worth noting that the BRICS bloc originally comprised Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa; however, its membership was expanded during the summit held in the Russian city of Kazan in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new members included Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Leaders participating in the meeting held in New Delhi on September 12\u2014chaired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2014included Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, and the Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the declaration, the BRICS nations stated: “We strongly condemn any act of terrorism that is criminal in nature and cannot be justified in any way, regardless of its motive, location, timing, or perpetrator.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The declaration further added: “We condemn in the strongest possible terms the terrorist attack that took place in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people and left many others injured.” BRICS nations reaffirmed their commitment to joint action against terrorism, its financing, cross-border terrorism, and terrorist safe havens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The declaration stated that terrorism should not be linked to any religion, nationality, civilization, or ethnic group, and that those involved in or supporting terrorist acts must be held accountable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BRICS nations emphasized a “zero-tolerance” policy towards terrorism and the need to end double standards in combating it. They also called for action against all terrorists and terrorist organizations listed by the United Nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The declaration underscored the need for enhanced cooperation to prevent extremism and radicalization among the youth and to combat terrorist financing, human trafficking, arms smuggling, money laundering, cybercrime, corruption, and digital fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BRICS expressed concern over unilateral tariffs, non-tariff measures, and protectionist policies that run counter to World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the declaration, such measures could disrupt global trade and supply chains and further exacerbate economic inequality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group condemned unilateral economic sanctions and other coercive economic measures, terming them contrary to international law, and noted that they disproportionately affect poor and vulnerable populations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BRICS nations emphasized dialogue, diplomacy, mediation, and conflict prevention as means to resolve disputes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The declaration expressed concern over rising military expenditures, nuclear threats, and the arms race, while highlighting the need to strengthen disarmament, arms control, and nuclear non-proliferation regimes. The group also emphasized the importance of nuclear-weapon-free zones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BRICS expressed concern over the unilateral sanctions imposed on Cuba and the tightening of the blockade, calling for the lifting of these sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BRICS nations expressed deep concern regarding the situation in the Middle East and called upon all parties to exercise maximum restraint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The declaration emphasized the need to maintain the ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BRICS opposed the forced displacement of Palestinians and any alteration to the geographical or demographic composition of Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group stated that a just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is possible only through peaceful means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Supporting the two-state solution, BRICS called for the establishment of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state based on the internationally recognized 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Expressing concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, the declaration condemned attacks on civilians, medical facilities, and other civilian infrastructure, as well as obstructions to humanitarian aid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BRICS nations stated that they do not accept any unilateral measures that alter the legal or historical status of Jerusalem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Welcoming the ceasefire in Lebanon, BRICS urged all parties to adhere to its terms and ensure full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The declaration expressed concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Sudan and emphasized the need for an immediate, permanent ceasefire and a negotiated solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Regarding Syria, the group reiterated its support for the country’s sovereignty and a comprehensive political process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the economic sphere, BRICS called for reforms within the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, and other global financial institutions. The group advocated for a greater role for developing and emerging economies regarding representation, transparency, and decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The declaration also supported reforms to the IMF’s quota system and an increase in the share of developing countries within the World Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
