The government of Punjab province in Pakistan has written to the federal Ministry of Interior requesting the deployment of Rangers in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, and Mianwali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Punjab government’s correspondence, the request for Rangers’ deployment was made “in view of the anticipated law and order situation.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department stated that the request was sent to “assist with security” at the behest of the provincial police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the spokesperson, the recommendation includes deploying three Rangers companies in Rawalpindi, five wings in Attock, and one company each in Jhelum and Mianwali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Home Department stated that Rangers contingents will remain deployed in all four districts until October 5, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The spokesperson added that the deployment of Rangers was approved during the 59th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement noted that the deployment would be carried out under Article 245 of the Constitution of Pakistan, the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997, and relevant provisions of the Pakistan Rangers Ordinance 1959.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Punjab Home Department, protecting the lives and property of the public is the government’s top priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
