The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF)\u2014an armed group opposed to the Taliban\u2014has claimed that five Taliban fighters were killed and ten wounded in clashes with Taliban government forces in the provinces of Kunar and Nuristan, which border Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to reports from the eastern Afghan province of Nuristan, a confrontation occurred early Saturday morning between the Taliban government and an opposing group in the Gordesh area of \u200b\u200bKamdesh district. The clash took place when fighters attempted to target Taliban border guards as they were traversing a mountain pass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This area is situated near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and adjoins Chitral. Throughout the year, both sides have claimed to inflict heavy losses on one another during various clashes between Taliban forces and the AFF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A source within the Taliban government told the BBC, “This opposing group has been ruthlessly crushed; several members were killed, and others have been arrested.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The source informed the BBC that a clash took place in the Sherpet and Landi Pet areas\u2014located near the Durand Line in Nuristan’s Kamdesh district\u2014involving special forces and Pakistani militias against ISIS and a subversive group. “More than 10 militants from these groups were killed, while six others were captured alive.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Videos received by the BBC show several individuals undergoing interrogation by Taliban government forces; one identified his home province as Ghor, while another named Parwan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It appears that the group included individuals hailing from various regions of Afghanistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These clashes between the Taliban and the opposing faction have occurred at a time when skirmishes have also recently taken place between Pakistani forces and the Afghan Taliban.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A statement issued by the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) on ‘X’ claims that Taliban ground forces and drones attacked AFF commando strongholds in Kamdesh. However, the Taliban forces were forced to retreat after suffering heavy casualties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The AFF claims to have liberated certain areas in the Kamdesh district of Nuristan and the Naray district of Kunar province from Taliban control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the AFF, significant quantities of weapons, equipment, drones, and military positions were also seized by AFF commandos during the clashes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The AFF further stated that earlier on Thursday, a police district office in Sar-e-Pul was targeted, resulting in the deaths of three Taliban militants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A local resident said, “It was midnight when they launched the attack, and government soldiers were also killed.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the Taliban government has not yet commented on the casualties suffered by its forces. The ‘Freedom Front’ has also claimed that its fighters have used drones alongside ground attacks against Taliban forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Security agencies of the Taliban government have previously alleged that Pakistan has provided sanctuary to their opponents in areas under its control and that training camps for them exist in Chitral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
