The Gilgit-Baltistan Information Department has directed the chief editors of regional newspapers to ensure the formal appointment and provision of adequate remuneration for all journalists and correspondents working at the district level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A notification issued by the Information Department (Ref: DIR-INFO-1(18)\/2025) cites a unanimous resolution passed by the Ghizer Press Club on October 2, 2026, emphasizing the need for effective measures to address the challenges faced by journalists at the district level and to safeguard their professional rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The notification states that correspondents working in remote and rugged areas play a pivotal role in timely conveying news regarding public issues, government activities, and matters of public interest to the media; therefore, proper recognition of their services and the protection of their professional rights are essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Information Department has urged the owners and chief editors of regional newspapers to appoint all district-based correspondents under formal contracts and ensure the payment of minimum wages in accordance with government-mandated regulations. The directive also emphasizes the provision of coverage for the correspondents’ legitimate professional expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
