Islamabad / Kashgal News

Concerns have been raised regarding the alleged arrest of Dr. Rahim—who hails from Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir—at Islamabad Airport, and demands have been made for his immediate release.

According to sources, Dr. Rahim arrived in Pakistan from abroad a few days ago and was taken into custody by Pakistani security agencies at Islamabad Airport. Various claims regarding the reasons for his detention have surfaced; however, these claims could not be independently verified.

Dr. Rahim is a renowned and senior physician. He obtained his MBBS degree from Dow Medical College, Karachi, and served as a medical professional at CMH Rawalakot for several years. Later, he moved to London, where he resided with his family and continued his professional practice.

Sources indicate that Dr. Rahim had participated in a protest organized by the Jammu Kashmir Joint Action Committee in London, and it is speculated that action is being taken against him in connection with this event. However, no clear official statement has been issued by the relevant authorities regarding this matter yet.

Reacting to Dr. Rahim’s alleged arrest, it has been stated that if he has been detained solely on the grounds of political or social activities and participation in peaceful protests, it raises serious concerns regarding fundamental human rights, freedom of expression, and the right to peaceful assembly. Critics argue that instead of clashing with state institutions, matters should be resolved within the legal and constitutional framework; furthermore, if action is taken against any citizen, they must be informed of the legal grounds and the proceedings must be conducted in accordance with the law.

They demanded that Dr. Rahim be released immediately, or—if there is a case or legal proceeding against him—that he be produced before a court so the matter can be pursued according to the law.

According to the critics, a difference of opinion should not be treated as a crime, as peaceful protest and raising one’s voice for one’s rights are fundamental rights of citizens in a democratic society.

They urged the government and relevant institutions to uphold the rule of law, fundamental human rights, and human dignity in the cases of individuals—including Dr. Rahim—detained due to political or social activities.
